Vermack Road Path from Vanderlyn Drive to Womack Road

DHS path work to start on Vermack RoadCurrent Activities:

(August 2024) Completed project 12 days ahead of schedule. Coordinating with Georgia Power for streetlight installation.

(July 2024) Drainage on the west side has been completed, and the road is open to traffic. The trail work will begin the week of July 8.

(June 2024) The project is being built in two phases during summers to minimize the impact on school operations. The first phase of the path from Vermack Drive to the Dunwoody High School driveway was completed in August 2023. Phase 2 from the driveway to Womack Road is scheduled for summer 2024.

The construction of stormwater upgrades along Vermack Road begins on June 17, 2024. A small section of Vermack Road just north of Womack Road will be closed to thru traffic through July 15. Alternative access will be available via Chamblee Dunwoody Road.

Project details:

A new, wider path will accommodate groups of students walking and biking to both the high school and Vanderlyn Elementary School.

The current sidewalk in front of Dunwoody High School on Vermack Road has utility poles for electrical transmission lines located within the walkway, and the sidewalk does not meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. It is more cost effective to relocate the sidewalk than it would be to relocate the transmission line. The plan includes a 12-foot wide shared-use path with a 3-foot buffer from the roadway. In areas where the on-street parking exists, the grass strip will be replaced with stamped concrete.

The project is being funded through the Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
