Dunwoody Vulnerable Road User Ordinance
Dunwoody's Vulnerable Road User Ordinance Flier
The City of Dunwoody’s Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) Ordinance provides protections for bicyclists, pedestrians and others from potential dangers posed by drivers. Passed by the Dunwoody City Council in November 2019, the ordinance is the first of its kind in Georgia. The ordinance went into effect on May 1, 2020.
Sidewalks and Pedestrian Safety
Dunwoody maintains more than 84 miles of sidewalk. Since incorporation in 2008, the city has expanded the sidewalk network by 20% with 15 miles of new sidewalks constructed to make Dunwoody a safer, healthier, and more enjoyable community for all.
Pedestrian Improvements
The city is halfway to its original goal of having sidewalks on both sides of all arterial and collector roads. The Sidewalk Improvement Policy provides an objective process to prioritize the city’s sidewalk projects.
Additionally, in 2014 the city prepared a Pedestrian Safety Action Plan in an effort to help guide and inform improvements at crosswalks throughout the city. Most of the improvements recommended in the action plan have been implemented.
