This intersection frequently experiences traffic congestion in the morning commute when heavy traffic on Roberts Drive and Chamblee Dunwoody Road merge into one southbound lane. Right turning cars from Chamblee Dunwoody Road often make the permissible right turn on red and fill up the space in the southbound lane such that cars traveling south on Roberts can’t advance through the intersection when their light turns green.
The design team evaluated the feasibility of a roundabout that would naturally meter the merging of the two roadways. A single-lane roundabout would be adequate in the short term but a dual-lane roundabout would likely be warranted in the long term. Both scenarios occupy a comparable footprint.
