The City of Dunwoody has called for a voter referendum on the November 7, 2023 ballot to fund capital projects in whole or part by the issuance of general obligation bonds. Some projects referenced on this webpage are being considered for funding should the referendum be approved by the voters. The City reserves the right to modify plans and/or projects based upon the needs of the city and future funding.
The Parks Master Plan was a community effort originally completed in 2011 with an update in 2017, to identify Dunwoody's parks, recreation, and open space needs and define the necessary parks priorities, policies, and improvement projects. It includes a long-range plan for Brook Run Park, pictured on this page (you can click on the image or here for a closer look).
The Parks Master Plan, in addition to robust public input, provided guidance for the Brook Run Park Phase 1 construction project, which was completed in 2020 at a cost of $7.5 million. Key components of the project include the following:
- A new amphitheater with terraced seating, expanded levels of open space, restrooms and an upgraded pavilion (called the Great Lawn Pavilion).
- Two multi-sports turf fields with a concession stand, overlook plaza, improved parking, restrooms, and an added entrance from Barclay Drive.
- A new covered picnic pavilion (called the Arboretum Pavilion), new restrooms and additional parking.
Several projects for Brook Run Park that were identified in the Parks Master Plan have not been completed. They include the following:
- Restroom facility for the Dog Park and Community Garden
- Picnic pavilion/restroom near Treetop Quest
- Splash pad
- Soccer pitches
- Tennis courts
- Basketball courts
- Improved maintenance facility
