Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the follow-up investigation of crimes committed against persons or property in the city.

The Dunwoody Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division includes a Major, Lieutenant, Sergeant, Crime Scene Technician, Crime Analyst, Narcotics Agent, and 7 Detectives. In addition, we have a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) comprising of a Sergeant and 3 Detectives.

Detectives

The Detectives are responsible for investigating serious crimes against persons as well as property crimes, normally referred to as Part 1 crimes. In addition, Detectives are responsible for the investigation of other crimes including credit card fraud, bad checks, and similar crimes. Detectives are on-call to assist the Uniform Patrol Division when requested.


Crime Scene Technician

The Crime Scene Technician is responsible for the recovery of evidence and the methodical processing of crime scenes. This can include the use of powder and chemical techniques to recover fingerprints from evidence and restore serial numbers that have been partially obliterated.


Crime Analyst

The Crime Analyst is responsible for the identification of crime trends, series, and patterns for the deployment of resources. In addition to in-house statistical analysis, the Dunwoody Police Department Crime Analyst also partners with Crimereports.com for real-time crime analysis information to the public. Narcotics Agent

The Narcotics Agent is a member of a task force of local, state and federal officers charged with assessing drug problems and designing specific initiatives to reduce or eliminate the production, manufacture, transportation, distribution and chronic use of illegal drugs and money laundering.
