Trees Atlanta Front Yard Trees

Tree Planting collage for web

Applications are now closed. All 80 available trees have been requested. We hope to join efforts with Trees Atlanta again for the 2024-25 season with this great program.

For the second year, the City of Dunwoody is partnering with Trees Atlanta to plant up to 80 shade trees in front yards across Dunwoody. The Front Yard Tree program provides free trees to homeowners to be planted within 35 feet of a right-of-way.

“We had complete support for the program from City Council and immediate buy-in from residents, who rushed to fill out online applications,” said Dunwoody Community Development Director Richard McLeod. “This program furthers our goal of protecting and building up Dunwoody’s tree canopy.”

Trees Atlanta, a nonprofit organization committed to the care and replenishment of metro Atlanta's urban forest, manages the processing of tree requests and coordinate with each homeowner for the selection, placement, and installation of up to two front yard trees per yard through this program.

A total of 54 front yard trees were planted during the 2022-23 season. Planting for 2023-24 began in October and will continue through March 2024. The new trees must be planted on private property within 35 feet of a right-of-way. Front yard locations allow mature trees to provide shade in public areas. After planting, property owners shall be responsible for watering and maintaining the new trees. Trees will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
