Intro to Tapestry Weaving

This class is for people with little or no experience in tapestry weaving. We will begin by warping a small frame loom. Next you will learn how to build the foundation for a small sampler. The focus will be on basics such as a pick, a pass, meet and separate, etc. The class will be based on Kristin Glasbrook’s book, Tapestry Weaving. We are planning on the book being available from the CHG Library for you to check out during the class.

You will need a simple loom. You can make your own loom with instructions I will send to you, or you can buy a loom from me. The cost of the loom is approximately $30. For a loom stand, you can use quick grip clamps, large alligator clips or a bookstand.  You may already have one of these at home and if so, you can use what you have. If you don’t have any of those, you will need to purchase them.  If you are comfortable, you can also use the loom in your lap or propped against the table or something near you. For loom options, please contact Terri Bryson, 2brysons@gmail.com) or 404-695-5199, about the loom. If you call and I am unable to answer, please leave a message so I can return your call.

Your thrums

A table fork to use as a beater.  This is just a regular fork used for eating.

Seine twine for warping, needles for weaving, and some tapestry yarns will be available for you as part of your supply fee.  If there is a special yarn or weft material that you would like to try, please bring that.
