Community invited to North Shallowford Annex Open House
The North Shallowford Annex is a new indoor facility for Dunwoody Parks & Recreation programs and Dunwoody Police Department training.
Dunwoody, GA – August 21, 2019 – The community is invited to visit the City of Dunwoody’s new North Shallowford Annex during an Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18. The Annex is located at 4470 N. Shallowford Road at the intersection of Peachford Road.
The Annex will provide indoor classroom space for Dunwoody Parks & Recreation programming. It will also serve as a new training center for the Dunwoody Police Department. During the Open House, members of the community will be able to tour a new state-of-the-art firearms simulator and defensive tactics training room.
“The annex will also allow us to bring in instructors and courses from around the country to train our officers in various specialized programs instead of having to send our officers out for training,” said Dunwoody Police Sgt. Robert Parsons. “We will also use the training annex to host numerous community classes such as CPR, Mental Health First Aid, the Citizens Police Academy, and others.”
In 2011, the City of Dunwoody paid $1.4 million for 5 acres of land and a 12,000 sq. foot building, which was recently renovated to serve as the Annex. It’s equipped with a new AED donated by the Dunwoody Homeowner’s Association.
“We’re excited about the new programming we can provide in this space. We’re already working with several nonprofit partners to use the Annex for programs and classes,” said Dunwoody Recreation Program Supervisor Rachel Waldron, who is now accepting instructor applications by email (Rachel.Waldron@DunwoodyGA.gov).
