Teen Police Academy

Participate in an up-close study of police operations!

The Dunwoody Police Department welcomes teenagers ages 14-18 to attend this FREE 5-day course that is designed to give participants an inside look at local law enforcement operations and challenges.


Our Goal

The Dunwoody Teen Police Academy is part of the community policing efforts of the Dunwoody Police Department. The Teen Police Academy is dedicated to increasing the relationship between the youth of our community and our Police Department through fun and exciting interactive education. Our goal is to make the Teen Police Academy a positive, rewarding and enlightening experience for all attendees.


How does it work?

The Teen Police Academy is a 5-day summer program that will provide the youth of our community an opportunity to learn how the Dunwoody Police Department operates. This year’s academy class will be held June 1 - 5, 2020. Classes will start promptly at 8:00 am and end at 3:00 pm daily.

  • Tour of DeKalb County Jail
  • Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events

  • Situational Awareness
  • Traffic Stop Presentation/Scenarios


Who can participate?

City of Dunwoody residents will have first priority in the acceptance process. All completed documents in the application packet should be submitted by May 15, 2020. Should there be any openings after May 15, 2020, applicants who reside outside of the City of Dunwoody will be considered.

Applicants must be willing to submit to a criminal history check and a driving record check prior to being accepted as Teen Police Academy students.

All completed documents in the application packet should be submitted either in person at the Police Department’s front desk or scanned and emailed to Community Outreach Officer Anwar Sillah at anwar.sillah@dunwoodyga.gov. Completed applications can also be mailed to Dunwoody Police Department, 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338. Accepted applicants will be notified by email and/or phone.
