The City of Dunwoody operates under a council-manger form of government. The City Council is comprised of a mayor and six council members, each elected by the people to a four-year term.

Dunwoody is a destination close to everything. By investing in better parks, roads, trails and public safety, the City is meeting the changing needs of residents, businesses and visitors alike. We’re proving we can invest and invigorate using a fiscally sound blueprint.

The City collected $2.7 million in occupational taxes and $2.6 million in hotel/motel taxes.

Community Development

The City issued 14 film permits, updated the sign ordinance and adopted the Perimeter Center Overlay.

Economic Development

The City managed the planning process to raise the Hotel Motel Tax to fund trails and recreation enhancements mostly in the areas where the hotels are located.


The City completed a land swap with DeKalb Schools for an expanded Brook Run Park and new site at Austin Elementary.

Transparency and open government

The City Clerk processed 3,326 open records requests and conducted open records training for all City staff, committees and boards.

What is the city doing to control costs?

By embracing an innovative split Contract Service model, Dunwoody is able to maintain a high level of service while keeping costs near the levels established seven years ago in a down economy.

What is the status of the New Dunwoody City Hall?

In 2017, the city purchased the property and building at 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road which is the new address for Dunwoody City Hall. City staff, Municipal Court and the Dunwoody Police Department moved into the newly modified building on Jan 1, 2018.

Dunwoody is more committed than ever to improving congestion issues, improving traffic flow and adding more pedestrian-friendly areas and public spaces city-wide. To learn more, visit the Projects Section of the city website.

How does the new eHOST and SPLOST work on my tax bill?

In 2018, the new eHOST and SPLOST law went into effect. Now, 100% of the eHOST proceeds provides a tax credit to your county tax lines. You will see the credit on your tax bill in the late summer. The new SPLOST penny tax is shared among the county and DeKalb cities. In Dunwoody, that share is used for public safety capital and transportation capital improvements will a small amount applied to the maintenance of existing capital.

How does the tax freeze work on my tax bill?

The homestead tax freeze is an annual tax credit to offset your taxes. It’s based on the lower of your homes current assessed value or the value as of 2009. As your home value increases and the gross tax on that value increases, a tax credit is applied to reduce the net taxes you owe to the value that would have been owed in 2009 had the current tax rate been in place then. You annual assessments and bill estimate received in the spring does NOT apply this credit, but you will see it on your bill issued in the late summer.
