CarFit is a national program developed through collaboration among AAA, the American Society on Aging, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association. Using CarFit, the Dunwoody Police Department will help Georgia seniors find out how the effects of aging change the way they fit in their vehicles and how that can affect their driving.
CarFit is designed to give senior drivers a quick, comprehensive check on correct safety belt positioning, distance from airbags, and how well their vehicles suit their abilities. It's FAST, FUN, and FREE!
The number of seniors in Georgia is growing rapidly. People over 65 are the fastest-growing population segment in the U.S. By 2030, one in five drivers will be age 65 or older, which means there will be more than 30 million older drivers on U.S. roads. This is the first program of its kind for senior drivers in Georgia. The Dunwoody Police Department’s goal is to keep seniors driving safely for as long as possible.
How is a CarFit check completed?
A CarFit trained technician will work with each participant to ensure they "fit" their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety. A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
The Dunwoody Police Department has recently had some officers certified as CarFit Technicians & CarFit Coordinators. If you are interested in scheduling for a CarFit Check contact Sgt. Jason Dove at (678) 382-6910 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
