Demolition Permit Requirements

Demolition permits should be pulled on interior and whole building demolitions on both residential and commercial projects. Demo permits may also be pulled if a contractor would like to get started on demolition work while the commercial interior build-out is in review. A demolition permit does not include any build back, solely demolition work.

Interior Demolition ONLY (Residential and Commercial)

Applicant provides:

1. Completed Construction Permit Application (for project name, write “interior demo”)
2. Contractor's state license, business license, and driver's license. If you are submitting licenses on behalf of someone else, please provide a notarized Authorized Permit Agent Form .
3. Asbestos and materials letter from certified company. If asbestos is present, letter should present a plan for remediation. Proof that materials were remediated will be required before Certificate of Completion can be issued.

4. Fee of $125 (payable with Visa, Mastercard, or check made out to “City of Dunwoody”)-Fees are only payable in person or by mail with a check.

Review period: no review required

Whole Building or Partial Building Demolition (Residential and Commercial)


Applicant provides:

1. Completed Construction Permit Application (for project name, write “whole (or partial) building demo”)
2. Contractor's state license, business license, and driver's license. If you are submitting licenses on behalf of someone else, provide a notarized Authorized Permit Agent Form .
3. Two copies of a site plan specifying which structures are existing and which structures will be demolished. Use the Site Plan Checklist for demolition. The site plan must show a construction exit/haul route (must follow BMPs). Site Plan Checklists can be found on the land disturbance page.
4. Asbestos and materials letter from certified company. If asbestos is present, letter should present a plan for remediation. Proof that materials were remediated will be required before Certificate of Completion can be issued.
5. Upon permit approval: Fee of $125 (payable with Visa, Mastercard, or check made out to “City of Dunwoody”)

Review period: 10 business days for all original submittals and resubmittals
